9-cell battery on T42p

#1 Post by RonS » Mon Dec 20, 2004 7:16 pm

Does the 9-cell battery stick out of the back of the T42p (15") like it did on my T40p?

Yes. And the 6-cell continues to be flush with the back, just like before.

ah i see.. its only on the right 2/3s of the laptop too huh.... looks kinda funky... does it get in the way anyhow? do u guys recommend it?... cause my customized laptop it says i can add 40 dollars to exchange the 6 cell for the 9 cell.. seems like a good deal.. i dont care too much for the aesthetics just more of is it annoying..specially for lets say.. using it on ur lap

is there supposed to be a way to take care of the battery? my t21 doesnt last much longer then half an hour on all normal settings and about an hour with low settings.. and its usually just plugged into the wall. i barely take it out.. its 3 years old but i mean i've only cycled it like 20x max

The 6cell should last about 4 hours and the 9cell should last about six. As to taking care of the battery, go to batteryuniversity.com or read IBM documentation. They have a good amount of info on maintaining the battery.

I have the 6 cell and the 9 cell and switch them out depending on use. The nine doesn't feel weird at all and actually makes the notebook feel more stable on your lap. However, for light tasks, the six is just better because it looks better and is lighter.

Around half a pound. It's also easier to fit in cases without the bulge in the back.

There's only a $4 difference between the two? Wow.

I have both with the 15". It's a tougher choice there, because the 15" is already larger/heaviethan the 14" and has shorter battery life.

If you really use the laptop on the go a lot, the 6-cell is much better. If you tend to set it down on a table for long periods of time while you work, it doesn't really matter.

i think he meant $40.

i have a 6-cell on my T42p to save weight and to have a smaller footprint.   it's rare that i use battery power as i am usually close to an a/c jack.
