PCMCIA Wirelss network adapter?

#1 Post by Shade » Sun Jul 13, 2008 3:42 am

Can I fit one of theese on my T60?
http://www.nextag.com/wireless-pcmcia-card/search-html

And what do I need to look for with theese cards?
Wich one is the best? Asus, Linksys?
And does any of you have experience with theese cards and can recommend one?

And I only have about 50 - 70$ to play with here...

I also need a card reader for my thinkpad wich can read most flash memory cards.. It sohuld also be able to Read Memory Stick PRO DUO..

I am just asking here beacuse I'm not sure about the card adapter stuff.. I've never played around with this before.. I know I have a PCMCIA card adapter in my T60, but what about expresscards? Do they fit`?.. What range og card adapter types can I fit in my thinkpad?

The 2007-FUG came from the factory with 802.11abg wireless. Why are you looking for a PCMCIA WiFi card?

I recently installed an ExpressCard|34 flash card reader into a client's T60, similar item to this ebay vendor which supports a variety of flash memory cards - works ok and is just as quick as the USB reader it has replaced and fit's relatively flush into the ExpressCard slot too! :)

Also check out expresscard.org for a multitude of ExpressCard items that are available. :thumbs-UP:

You can, yes. However, given the overhead imposed by the Cardbus controller chip(s), you would do better to take advantage of your T60's internal Mini-PCI-Express socket, and install an internal wireless card. See this link for the fellow I just bought mine from.

If you do not feel comfortable opening up your unit to install a card like that, or cannot find someone to help you do so, I would suggest an ExpressCard wireless device such as this one.

The ExpressCard interface is far faster than Cardbus/PCMCIA, and the cards are easier to use (slimmer, lighter). In the case of the T60 and T61, the ExpressCard slot is on the top, Cardbus slot on the bottom.

Happy tweaking.
