Lenovo Sale ending

#1 Post by linko » Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:47 am

This big 'sale' that I see advertised on the Lenovo site is set to end Monday. After that, are the prices just supposed to go back up for a long time? Does anyone have any idea when they might go back down? I'm looking to buy an X61 very soon, but I will not meet the July 14 deadline. Any idea on if a new model will come out, driving down the price of the X61, or maybe another sale? Thanks a lot for any speculation/input.

This issue comes up a lot it seems. Bottom line: Lenovo always always always has a sale going. Never will you see "full price" on their site. Or, more cynically, the real full price is the advertised "sale price", whatever that happens to be at the time.

New models are slated to come out, with the T-series update coming first around August 5th. No ETA on X-series updates. Again, refer to the forum FAQ's on whether to buy now or wait, good explanation there.

Ah, so basically just wait until I have to have it, and then order. I suppose the longer I wait the better. I just can't wait too much more.. thanks.

remember thou that the deals on older thinkpads will eventully end as their factory surplus will diminish. consequently at the same time they will introduce the new thinkpads which initially will not have any special savings/deals.

I suppose at that point I'll have to order from a site other than Lenovo.

Well, I see this new intel chipset is being released in August? Is it possible that this new release will cause the current X61 to be 'obsolete' and maybe drive the price down? Maybe I'm just dreaming though...

Edit:

Will there at least be some sort of warning before the X61 stops being sold from Lenovo? I don't want to wake up and not be able to buy one because I was waiting for a sale that never came...

usually the prices on the previous models go up when the new ones are reintroduced.

I've never seen such a warning from Lenovo itself. Most recently they pulled the 14" 4:3 T61(p) from one day to another from their website without a warning (they still sell some through their outlet though). A CSR may be able to tell you over the phone that certain models might be pulled soon (but I never know how credible that info is).

CSR will tell you anything to make a sale (literally anything - just name it).
