T23 HD in X32
What I would like to do to is take the HD out of the T23 and put it into the X32, is this at all feasible?? Otherwise there are all sorts of downloaded this and thats that will need to be re-installed, a headache.
Both machines are set for XP SP2, if that matters.
Thanks,
Stuartf

It will most likely BSOD at some point. Hardware is way too different.

I have taken a drive out of an X30 and put into a T23 which has been going fine now for a couple of years, after downloading a few drivers. The X32 is a bit different. However, I have also taken a drive from an X31 to an X32 with no problems, had to download a few drivers. So it *could* work.
Depending on your comfort level with risk (and your ability to play around with drivers) you could back everything up, and give it a try. I would download the X32 drivers first and put them on a CD, so you have them available in case you can't get your wireless or LAN working right away. Both are likely to be different from the T23.
Overall, I agree however that a clean install is way better. But given the time involved, swapping the drive in is a reasonable option to try. YMMV.

It depends on whether the two computers use the same chipset. The X31 and the X32 do, so you can swap hard drives easily. I've done the same from my R50p to a T41, again because they use the same chipset. But the T23 and the X32 use different chipsets, so it's not going to work. You'd get a BSOD.mpcook wrote:However, I have also taken a drive from an X31 to an X32 with no problems, had to download a few drivers.

Another way to do this is to swap your disk and then do a partial reinstall of Windows. You'll need a Windows installation disk - boot from this and choose Repair from the list of options that are presented. This will remove any incompatible device drivers, and after Windows finishes reinstalling you'll need to install the X32 specific drivers
This is quicker than a fresh install and then copying all your data across and reinstalling your applications. I've used this method to successfully move an A31 to a T42.
