fingerprints behind/inside LCD on T60p

#1 Post by EricRC » Sun Jul 13, 2008 8:56 pm

I recently sent my T60p with UXGA LCD to Lenovo and asked them to changed a new LCD for me. But after I receive my laptop, I found that during a pure black background, there are some visible fingerprints inside the LCD which can't be cleaned from the outside.I suspect that they are caused by the technician of Lenovo when they're changing the LCD panel
Anyone here encounted such a problem before? Where do these fingerprints located? Could they be cleaned by disassembling the screen or the LCD panel?
I'll try to post a link of the picture later if possible. Any idea on this issue is appreciated. :)

I believe the Lenovo techs don't take the panels apart. They just swap parts. My guess is that you got a "servicable used part" that was repaired by some guy who screwed up or didn't know what he was doing.

I think so,these "servicable used parts" are being used circularly.

@ EricRC:

Could you please inform what was:

a) The type of UXGA LCD that was in your T60p, when you sent it in for service; was it an IDTech or a BOE Hydis? Do you know the P/N or FRU of the LCD originally in your T60p, and do you know the FRU of the replacement-LCD, you received back?

b) The specific reason why you sent your T60p UXGA LCD in for service (replacement)?

Thanks!

Johan

a) Before I sent it in for service,it was a BOE Hydis HV150UX1-101. And I received the laptop back with a BOE Hydis HV150UX1-100.I don't know the exact FRU of these parts, I check at Lenovo's site and maybe both of them are 13N7076

b) And the reason that I sent my laptop in for service was that I discovered there're a few dust specs inside the LCD, so I sent it back to change a new one.

The biggest problem is that I'm now in China which is far away from the States, I have to ask my relative to take it back to the U.S for service. The machine type was 2623, and it cannot be registered to IWS in China.

Also want to know, does the one who replaces CCFL back lights for customers could also deal with this problem?
Is it possible to disassemble the panel and simply wipe the fingerprints away?

You could ask Jamiphar on this forum, but i'm not sure if he's willing to risk this, i mean, once it's apart it is extremely fragile.

Are you absolutely sure that your first panel wasn't either HV150UX1-100 or HV150UX1-102 ?

This question has been asked several times (by users discovering the "dust inside LCD"), and I am not aware of a definitive "yes" or "no" - but I suggest you see the thread LCD stains ... but on the inside? (link to pics) (see the post of Mon Jun 09, 2008 2:17 pm; links pointed to therein mainly due to Troels).

To find more information about this, I suggest you Search this forum for e.g. "dust inside LCD" (remember to "Search for all terms"), and see what comes up. Apparently/unfortunately, this "dust inside the LCD" has stuck many FlexView-owners... :-( ... so if you could come up with a simple, useful "removal-recipe", then I am convinced that you would win this years ThinkPad-rescue-medal!

Yap,I've read that before, but this time it's a fingerprint problem rather than dust specs, I have no idea whether they belong to the same issue. Maybe the dust spec and the fingerprints are both at the same layer of the LCD
