Intel GMA 950 vs. Intel X3100

I got my new Thinkpad R61i Im still in the process of selling my other Thinkpad Z61m, the Intel GMA950 performs better than the Intel X3100 on my new laptop. I was wondering if this is a common problem and how to fix it

New drivers should help.... Did you set your power sheme to max performance?

Yes I went to the Intel website to get the latest drivers. The performance is still somewhat horrible. If I knew that I would have had issues with the Intel X3100 I wouldnt have gotten the R61i with it.

Something else is clearly wrong. I have the X3100 graphics running Vista on my MacBook (using Boot Camp) and it works like a champ. Full Aero Glass.

Do you have enough RAM? X3100 takes more RAM than GMA 950 did. I recommend at least 2GB for an X3100 system.

yea I have 2 gigs of RAM. Can you run Project 64 on your macboook with Mortal Kombat Trilogy with no issues? it sort of lags too opening pictures. I didnt have issues with the Intel GMA 950.

I don't own those programs, so I have no idea. Rome: Total War runs great on my 2.2 GHz MacBook with 4 GB ram, but ran terribly on my old (now my wife's) 2.2 GHz MacBook with 2 GB ram. Mine is 6 months newer with X3100, but both are Core2Duo.

My other Thinkpad is almost a year older and I am disappointed that the newer one under performs in video

Update: I installed XP and the XP equal driver, yes it was Vista! I can use everything that I used on my other Thinkpad with no issues. That is messed up that they would release a Vista driver that causes horrible issues!!! Shame on both Intel and Lenovo.

I miss Vista!!! XP cant handle thousandths of pictures as well as Vista.

Try doing a "clean" install of Vista and let ThinkVantage Software Update get the best drivers for you. I have no issues using Vista on either my GMA 950 or X3100 systems and when a difference is noticeable (rarely) I always get better performance on the X3100 in games and video.

Don't forget SP1 for Vista which makes things run a lot better.

After days of trying to figure out the issue of my videocard I solved it! It was a driver issue, by using a driver released a year ago all my issues fixed and now I wonder if I can install SP1 without updating the video card driver lol
