Solved! Printer Status: Paused won't go away!

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Mon Jul 14, 2008 8:22 am

I have a Brother HL-5240 laser printer, attached to a print server.
Since 2 days, the printer status stays on Paused, and I can't find a way to re-activate the printer again.
I have uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers, to no avail.

In the printer properties, when I click on Printer/Pause printing, the tick-mark should go away, but it doesn't.
I am the only user on this PC with full admin rights.
Windows XP/SP3.

Does anyone know how to bring my printer back to life?
A setting perhaps in the Registry?

I have had this happen once or twice in the past and I think I acutally had to delete the printer and if any printer software was installed, uninstall that; then re-install the printer. Just a thought, but when did you take the download for SP3? I haven't allowed the update yet. Also, I'm not on my computer at home so I can't check, but check out the Services under Admin. Services in the Control panel; maybe there is a service there that needs "Restarted".

Try the following (if you have not already):
1. Turn off the printer.
2. Turn off the print server.
3. Restart the Windows machine.
4. Restart the print server.
5. Turn on the printer.

Then see if you can manage it from Windows. The steps usually work for me. ... JDH

Found the problem.
A few days ago I moved my computer and all other stuff into my new home office, and put the USB printer cable in the wrong port of the print server.
Swapped the ports, and all is hunky-dory again.

Thanks for the other suggestions.

I had applied SP3 a while ago already (the full download, not via Windows Update, which is turned off BTW).
No problems with SP3 on any of our PCs or laptops. :)
