Need help getting mic input to work right on T40

#1 Post by dataBoy » Tue Jul 15, 2008 6:54 am

It was working, I made a few good recordings but suddenly the recordings are barely audible. Audible enough so I can tell something is working. What can I check to get the gain back to a usable level?

This is on my T40 with XP Pro

TIA

Double click systray speaker icon, Options, Properties, click Recording, make sure Microphone box is checked, click OK. Adjust MIC slider to level you want (also make sure MUTE box is NOT checked).

Hmmm, seems like you'll have to provide some more information. What software are you using to record with? Also, are you relying on the built-in MIC or plugging in an external? If an external, try unplugging it and see how the built-in one works.

Let us knw how you make out!

I'm tried using both Windows Sound Recorder and Audacity. I'm using a plug in mike (I have a built in mic?) The mike I use works fine on another computer (and in fact worked fine on the T40 last time I used id)

There is a Mic boost check box, which is hidden away. (-So well hidden I had to ask here recently as I could not find the check box, having used it only the day before!)

Go to Control Panel/ Sounds and Audio Devices

Go to the audio tab and click Volume, under the Sound Recoding.

Under the Mic slider, click the advanced button and you should find the Mic Boost check box there. (Alternatively, if there is no Advanced button, select Advanced Controls on the Options Menu.)

I hope that this helps.

Glad it solved your problem.

BTW, I think that the check box can be unexpectedly cleared at times, but I have no idea what clears it.
