Office 2007 Trialware - removable?

#1 Post by flamenco » Thu Jul 17, 2008 11:54 am

Hi,
I have a new R61i. It came with various software, including what appears to be a trial version of Office 2007. This steaming heap, er, I mean, high-quality software is not something I'm planning to buy. Not that I'm cheap or anything. :)

My last new machine came with little software, so I had simply installed my old copy of Office 97, which was entirely adequate. This time around, I have been using Open Office, and it seems excellent and ready for prime-time, unlike last time I tried it a couple years ago.

I'm seeing that the pimpware, er, trailware version of Office 2007 takes up a half a gig of space. Can I simply uninstall it, or will that blast any important components of my system?

Thanks!

I uninstalled it right away and haven't had any problems since (on a T61p).

... see the thread T60 speed how to? (the post of Thu Apr 19, 2007) describing what (Lenovo-preloaded!) bloatware I removed from a brand-new T60. Never had any problems removing that. You may also try seek this forum for "bloatware removal" etc.

Thanks, All!
I was hoping that was true. I'm just not overly trusting of our friends in Redmond, especially given that in the past, uninstalling IE could screw things up pretty well.

It's true that as a CSS person, I curse Microsoft often and loudly. But I'll say this... Excel is a pretty good program, and WinXP is pretty decent! I actually got that with my new laptop.

Anyone who has been tortured by Vista may enjoy going to BlimpTV.net and clicking where is says "Vista Sucks" for one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
