T41p Battery not charging -Interesting Cause

Our T41p stopped charging unless the DC connector was at a carefully held angle and was brought home for me to repair this evening.

First, I found that the screw holding the socket into the T41p was loose. This cross-head screw can just be accessed from underneath the monitor, although needs a very small flat-blade screwdriver and great care. Alternatively, the display will need to be removed.

As the socket was loose, the two wires onto the central contact had broken, although were still held in place by the heatshrink sleeve. To extract the connector is complex and I think needs the motherboard taken out. As it was I had remove the bezels, keyboard, display connector, etc. Fortunately I was able to re-solder and re-sleeve the wires in-situ, but had to be really careful when soldering.

I have seen other postings of people with units that will not charge, so perhaps these wires are worth a check.
