Warranty upgrade cost?

#1 Post by mtbiac » Thu Jul 17, 2008 3:24 pm

I just bought a used X61t and the warranty expires in just under 4 weeks. How much would it cost to extend the warranty another 2-3 years? I can't call right now because I'm at work, just wondering if it's worth it

Thanks

FWIW, for 2 extra years on my T43p I paid $199.00 + tax directly from Lenovo, because I was pressed for time, can be done for around $155 on the web, with some research involved.

No clue whether the price is the same, this was standard depot from three years to five.

Hope this helps.

Take a look at the warranty extension/upgrade prices:

ThinkPlus and Lenovo Care Maintenance and Protection Services

Perhaps try their toll-free number and ask for their sales department.

See the thread Warranty Extension. If the 5-year EZServ (depot service) with IBM/Lenovo part number 41C9180 also apply to your X61t, then go to Affinity Systems, Inc. and buy it for around $150. The 41C9180 is applicable for ThinkPad's which came with 3-year base warranty - as also seen from the current Lenovo TopSeller WEB Guide - July 2008 (see page 12).

PS: I guess that warranty of the X60t can also be extended to 5-years, although only "non-t" X60's are explicitly mentioned in the list at Warranty Service Upgrade (WSU) - Mobile Products.

Question:
I currently have a 1YR depot warranty on my x61s, if I wanted to make that 3YR depot I would get 41C9170 (1YR depot to 3YR depot) for $119, extending my warranty by 2 years. Now the question is, am I able to upgrade that warranty again, this time to a 4 year depot using 41C9178 (3YR depot to 4YR depot) for $110? (total = $229)
I ask this because if I get 41C9172 (1YR depot to a 4YR depot) would cost $249, which makes little sense in terms of pricing.

IBM might say that it will - at the time of purchasing a warranty extension, but when you need an IWS-repair, then look what happened to me...: IBM/Denmark deny to honor warranty confirmed by IBM-Support - everything denied (incl. extended IWS-repair). If you want this IWS-coverage on an extended warranty, I absolutely suggest that you make sure your official, IBM-written documentation in top notch!
