Which Should I Buy? Ghost or Arconis?

I need an imager, specifically one that can do exact bit for bit backups, since I will be imaging encrypted drives.

Which do you recommend? Arconis True Image or Norton Ghost?

I have used neither, but you may want to consider Dantz Retrospect.

AFAIK Ghost no longer have bootable CD option so Acronis is the way to go.

Another vote for Acronis.
Buy a V10 rather than the current V11.
Occasionally they pop up cheap on eBay (I got mine there for about $9.-)

V11 got an update recently. But I still use V9.

i dont know too much about ghost, but really DriveImageXML is freeware, works great with the bartPE disc, does bit for bit, and you can image your drive while in windows. so easy heres the link:

i think it would have no problem backing up an encrypted hard drive but im not an expert... still its free and easy to use, and from my personal experience totally reliable. only thing that bugged me was when i tried to back up a 160GB partition onto a 20GB one. Thought since the bigger partition only had about 5 Gigs written to it, should be no problem. YOU CAN though put an image of a smaller partition to a bigger one no problem.

You don't say for what operating system you need a backup software? If you run Win XP SP2 (or SP3), I would suggest to get Acronis True Image Home ver. 9 (or 10, which I don't know?), and then download the latest ATI ver. 9 build, being # 3854. ATI ver. 9 (bilud 3854) works perfectly under XP, and may be found very cheap at e.g. eBay.

I have also seen many people also recommending ATI ver. 10 (which will also work under Vista, I believe? - check it for yourself!). The firt version of ATI 11 has received quite some criticism from users - not the least for not resolving bugs etc (it took Acronis more than 8 months to issue the first build after the initial release!).

As pointed out above, ATI (Home) ver. 11 has recently (July 3) been released in a new build (# 8101), which I however haven't tried myself - yet.

But if for XP: Get ATI ver. 9 (or 10?) - highly recommended!
