can't see videos

#1 Post by syrenab » Fri Jul 18, 2008 7:20 am

Something happened to my T22 after downloading an "update" for Win2000 Pro.
Everything else works, but any video application, like in a birthday card, or on cnn.com, is replaced with the icon showing a torn film strip.
I have reloaded ActiveX (get message ërror on page"), Quick TimE player Java. Nothing helps.
As I said, it worked before,, and ALL other apps work fine.
This problem exists whether using Firefox v.2 or Windows Explorer v.6
Any ideas?

Reinstall your codec pack.... There are lots of them, and they are free, like K-lite codec pack or something similar, delete old ones before installing new....

also be sure you have the most current Flash version. I think it is up to vers 9.

Thanks beGi for quick response.

I've installed K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, and rebooted computer.
Result same.
I uninstalled Adobe Flash Player Plugin and reinstalled latest version.
Control Panel under Currently installed programs shows:
Adobe Flash Plugin and
Shockwave
but without any size.
Shows Quicktime with size 151MB
But when I try to play video on cnn.com I get message:
Ïnstall /ActiveX Plugine Flash Player
My birthday card program continues to show torn film-strip

BTW I also have a long list of Win2000 Hotfixes. Should I uninstall them?

when you get those error messages, sometimes, at least on my Firefox browser, there will be a button you click that will download and install the newest plug-in for you. Are you seeing any Click Here to Install button near the error window? I think too, some of the Security updates for browsers may disable ActiveX but I thought there was a place in Internet Options (?) where you can allow ActiveX

Thank you, Purcy, for suggestions.
I found that MS Explorer (which I don't normally use) had been set to block ActiveX
After removal of block, MS Explorer now works OK, for videos and programs like birthday card reader.
However Firefox is still not working. Perhaps one of the recent Firefox security updates is causing this, but I can find no way to unblock.
Yes, everytime I try to look at video on cnn.com, it tells me to install Flash/ActiveX plugin (version 9). Each time it installs OK, but result is always same!
I will go back to Firefox service to try to resolve.
