T30 CMOS hack for a/b/g card

#1 Post by ThinkPad » Wed Dec 22, 2004 9:04 am

I searched on this topic and could not find much. I want to install a mini-pci a/b/g card on my T30, but it requires a CMOS hack to accept it. How can this be done

Google for no-1802.com, download and run it and you will be set. Don't expect decent A reception though, the antenna in the T30 is for b/g only.

I ordered the IBM a/b/g card II and tried to put it in my T30 with the no1802 hack. While it didn't pop up with the 1802 msg, everytime I booted it popped up with a network message saying there were too many (something like code 01C9). Plus, it would always run the extended memory test even though it was disabled in the BIOS. Then with Windows XP loaded, the drivers installed but the device manager showed a little yellow exclamation next to the device with a Code 10 error (failed to start). I have no idea how to fix it and for now am just thinking of returning it.

Still deciding on which card to get for my T30, and which will work with the hack.

The 2200BG works great for me with the 1802.com hack on my T30...

I second the 2200BG. Amazing reception. Even better than the Cisco 350 my T30 came with. And I managed to find an OEM one for $28 new.

Is it true that the A network is becoming rare thesedays. I travel around the world and would like to have a good option for wireless network connection.

In all of my travels I cannot recall ever accessing a public WAP via .11a. Most airport WAPs are now .11g, while the majority of retail based WAPs (Borders, Starbucks, etc.) in the US/Canada are .11b.

Everywhere I connected in Japan last year was .11g with a few minor exceptions, with the exact opposite being the case in the UK and on the Continent where .11b was prevalent.

Since the a/b/g card doesnt seem to be very T30 friendly, what .11 b/g card works better

The intel 2200BG with the no1802.com hack.
Whether you acquire the intel or the IBM-ised one, both will work with the hack.

I think you'll find the IBM card will work with T40 or later models that originally came with the 2200BG card, but their bios wont allow non-ibm brand ones.... but again can be alleviated by the no-1802.com hack. Otherwise same chipset.
