Aren't they getting a bit risky? Too many models.

I do like how they put the buttons on the left arm rather than on top left with horizontal bar

not sure wats diff from ThinkPad R

I don't think so. Dell's been doing it for years and it hasn't hurt them. Frankly I'm surprised it took Lenovo so long to come up with more standard models per series. I'd think it would be more cost effective than having every other machine CTO (custom build) because they'd have much tighter control over parts inventory.

Are they ever going to come out with CTO versions of the SL series? It's annoying that we can't even upgrade the hard drive or RAM or battery on their site. And the thing has been on their site for a week, but nobody else has it listed. Is this just a paper launch and they don't actually have any produced yet?

When I look on Lenovo's US web site right now, all of the SL series models are customizable.

roll cage?

#6 Post by celticchrys » Thu Aug 28, 2008 3:46 pm

I had the first R-series Thinkpad, and am I right that it didn't have a rollcage either? The R30? I had one of these, and it was a great laptop. I wonder how the new SL series will compare to the R30? No Thinklight, and keyboard changes, but does anyone think the build quality will be comparable to the R30 which didn't have a rollcage?

ThinkPads didn't see roll cages until right after Lenovo took over.
