great idea. But shouldn't it be easier for all to get a new ThinkPad BIOS version without this st*** hdd check?

Thanks to all who've signed the petition, it is alive and well. To date we have (49) signatures. I've made note of all the previous suggestions for petition content, and once we're ready to submit it I will post it here for comment.

Hi Harryc,

great! I announced this petition in the german Thinkpad-Forum to push it. Hopefully, there are many more signatures in the next few weeks, so you can send this petition to Lenovo soon. Good luck and I hope it is no problem I linked another thinkpad forum here. :D

Thanks for the link, no problem at all. Also, thanks to our fellow German Thinkpad enthusiasts for their support.

Yes, the second option is to remove the check for HDD and get rid of that error with not supported drives. They can include even the removing of check for miniPCI adapters.

Anyway, PM sent

I dont understand one issue, there are modded Bios Files for alot of Thinkpadmodells whith disabled check for miniPCI Adapters to prefend the 1802 Error. What is different to the 2010 Error, isnt it the same problem (a Whitelist with Harddrives in the Bios)?

The only thing I can think of is that since T43's and R52's have a hybrid IDE/SATA controller/bridge onboard, the original IBM engineers tweaked the firmware on the supported drives to work more reliably with it.

OK, what about this idea:

Let they make FW without any limitations on miniPCI adapters and hard disk drives which you can use after your warranty expire.

You know, the main reason why there are limitations is to prevent some damage to the laptop from some crappy devices to make it as realiable as possible. So, after the warranty it should be void and now it's OUR choice what we want to install and use.

BTW, this issue is not related to T40p, right ? :D

I will not stop the support for the petition, I am just curious if I can swap my HDD w/o any problems.

Hi Beaver,

good point. But if you were Lenovo, would care about service like that for an old product which were offered under an other brand (IBM). I think the only way to convince Lenovo is to show them there is big crowd of potential consumer they can loose. (I hope this sentence make sense and the phrasing isn't to much German like :D )

I agree. We like the ThinkPads. We want to squeeze them to maximum, but this can not be possible forever, there will be no more CPUs to fit our old sockets and no more bigger PATA drives. We will need some modern machines. But if we stop loving them, we will not buy them in the future. So why to loose happy customer who is probably going to buy a new ThinkPad when his old one die (personaly, I am blinking at T400 in the shops, but IBM is not paying me enough :D ).

Hi Harry,

funny typo. :D
"Harry hat..." is German for "Harry has...". It has nothing to do with a headpiece. :D

82 + 16 = 100? Perhaps, in the USA, but not in Germany! :D
