WTB: (Maybe) Dothan CPU
Maybe looking for a P-M Dothan CPU for a T4x system. The CPU with 2 meg cache...
Just want to see what the best bang for the buck is now....

FYI, the T40, T41, T42's take the 400MHz bus Dothans, the T43's should receive the 533MHz bus Dothans.
You might want to clarify you preference.
IMHO, it's hard to argue with a $25-$35 1.7GHz Dothan upgrade for any sub-1.6GHz 400MHz bus T4x.

For a T43, this is my vote for 'bang for the buck'.

For T40/41/42 with a 1.6 or lower Banias, I agree with Underclocker. 1.7 Dothan.

Sorry about that.underclocker wrote:FYI, the T40, T41, T42's take the 400MHz bus Dothans, the T43's should receive the 533MHz bus Dothans.

Forgot all about the 533Mhz CPU's for the T43's.
I'm looking for the 400Mhz FSB CPU.
It's for a T41 to replace a P-M 1.5Ghz (1meg cache) cpu.
Just wondering what speed you would get if you use a 533bus CPU in a T41 that uses the 400 bus?

Using a Dothan 2.0GHz SL7SM as an example, since it has a 15x multiplier, I'd expect it to run at 1.5Ghz in a T41. I'd go for a 1.7GHz Dothan ($25 and up) with a 400MT/S Front side bus. The 1.8's are usually under $80 as well, so that's another decent choice. Once you get up into the 2.0Ghz and higher range, they run $130 and up. Unless you are using every bit of processor power at that point, you are looking at diminishing returns on the dollar. These are EBay prices.
