T60 HD compatibility question

#1 Post by kblackav8or » Mon Jul 21, 2008 7:48 am

I am looking at a Seagate Momentus to replace the 5400 rpm drive in my soon to arrive T60. 200 GB - internal - 2.5" - SATA-300 . The SATA 300 part is what I am not sure about. Supposedly this T60 is NIB, 2.16ghz, 2gig ram X1400 ATI video. I am hoping it will be able to run some games and keep me entertained while away from home for the next 7 months. This will be my 4th Thinkpad. So far so good.

I believe the T60 is SATA-150, so your drive should work just fine, but the speed of data transmission between the drive and the machine will be at 1.5Gbps instead of 3.0Gbps.

1.5Gbps is more than fast enough to handle any drive's platter transfer rate, but one might notice a difference if you're using the drive cache a lot.

Thanks that is exactly what I needed to know. I would rather have the machine be the limitation then the drive and so long as they are compatible. I am going to look at getting it and hopefully have it arrive about the time the laptop gets here. Set it all up one time.
