Carrying Case/ Sleeve X40

#1 Post by davepol » Tue Jul 22, 2008 9:02 am

Hi

I just bought my new/used ThinkPad X40. I'm looking for a carrying case or a laptop sleeve. Most of those on ebay are for widescreen laptops. Could somebody recommend me one that is sure to fit this model? Please paste the link if you know the website which sells them?

Thank you,
davepol

I'd be interested too. Ebay have 'Thinkpad' sleeves, but I wonder if they're just knockoffs or of any quality.

Maybe you would like http://www.sfbags.com/products/sleeveca ... ng/ibm.htm

I use the size 22-18 with my X60, 4-cell. It fits like a glove. Great quality sleeve and outstanding service from the people at Waterfield.

Quality is another problem. Those dedicated for X40 on ebay come from Hong Kong, shipping takes forever, and quality might be questionable too.

yeah, i'd stay away from the ebay china sleeves. i bought one just 2 weeks ago and it got here quickly (i guess they have a site in cali that they ship from for conus customers?) but the sleeve is too tight. if you flip it inside out you can see that they simply made a template of the EXACT dimensions, which doesn't work out so well when flipped back right-side-out since you lose some space inside for the seams and zipper and such.
end result: it sorta works for me right now, though i can't really zip it up all the way. a waste of $10 and time. it's not worth the effort trying to let out the seams just to get the sleeve to fit better.

gongo2k1, are you referring to the black sleeves that say 'IBM Thinkpad' on them?

For a 12" sleeve, try a Crumpler Gimp, at http://www.marryyourbag.com. They have a lot of messenger-style bags and packs as well. I use Gimps for my X30 and X31 and they do their job. No nonsense, no extras, no pouches, just thick neoprene and a big protected zip. Stuff it in a non-laptop bag or pack like that.
T42 (14"/250GB/1.5GB; NL; with minidock); R51 (15" flexview/40GB/1 GB). X31 (12"/320GB/1GB); T42 (14"/60GB/1GB; FR)

I'll also second SFBAGS/WATERFIELD.

Their cases are absolutely top notch. Ballistic nylon with some kind of gel padding in between. Their bags are expertly made and I don;'t even see any torn seams or loose strings on the edges.

I currently have one for my T61....in the process of getting my X40 soon and I might get myself a sleeve along with a vertigo bag too.

it's SO expensive though....but it's well worth the price and investment. get it if you have the money, but if you;re a struggling student like me, save your money :P
