Best place to buy new R series?

#1 Post by lagged » Tue Jul 22, 2008 4:16 pm

I want to buy my mom an R series, where is the cheapest and easiest place to order one?

And a new R series will be as good as my trusty old T43 right?

Thanks!

Since you don't state where you are from, the only place to recommend really is the marketplace here. If you were from the US, for example, I'd also say: look at the Lenovo outlet.

Sorry about that. I'm from PA, USA.

I'm looking to order this week so I'm not really looking for a deal that only pops up now and then. Is the regular Lenovo website a big rip off or are prices more or less in line?

Try the outlet section of Lenovo's site, some good deals there, but you have to act fast once you see something that you like...

Good luck.

There is always a sale going on on Lenovo's website and you can always find a coupon for 5 - 10 % off. However, prices still fluctuate on a weekly basis. For example, prices for high-end T61p are now significantly higher than 3 months ago (approx. $200-300 more). Not sure whether the same is true for the low-end R series (since I never looked into them).
I'd suggest two things:
  • 1. Look at the Lenovo outlet and if you find a system that suits your needs, see whether you can configure the same/a similar system on Lenovo's main page and see whether you'd save money ordering at the outlet or not.
    2. Configure a system at the Lenovo main site that you like and see whether you might get a preconfigured system with the same/similar specs at a third party website (like newegg, etc.) cheaper or not.
