Recieved T23, question

#1 Post by tf34mech » Tue Jul 22, 2008 6:10 pm

I am looking at buying a T23 2647-N16 but I do not see this listed on the TAWBOOK. The Lenovo site lists the following.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=2647N16

How accurate is the Lenovo site. I cant find anything to back up the claim of having 512mb of memory. Also is there anything off this that can be used in a R30 2656-22U (memory, wireless)?
Thanks for the help.

Lenovo' s site is accurate 98% of the time. But the fact that the machine had originally been shipped with 512Mb RAM doesn't mean it hasn't been played with afterwards...

Not all models will appear in tawbook, though...

Yes for both memory and wireless. However, I doubt (I may be wrong here) that R30 will take more than 2x256Mb RAM, and RAM in your T23 may very well be 1x512Mb.

Hope this helps.

trwbook.pdf says that R30 systems can take PC133 (133Mhz) modules although they will operate at the chipset limit of PC100 timings. It also appears that R30s will take 2 x 512MB.

You are correct, I never realized it had this limitation.
Thanks

I can verify that R30 can handle two 512mb. I just upgraded mine with 2 sticks, as I found what was advertised as a 16 chip 256mb pc133 on craigslist for $10. But when I plugged in the fru at ibm.com it was a 16 chip 512mb.

That looks like a good deal but a bit more than what I am looking for.
Thanks

FWIW, I've got a 2647-N16 next to me at the moment. Looking at what the site says:

Original description: PIII-M 1.13GHz (512KB), 512MB RAM, 30.0GB HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 8X-3.3X DVD-ROM, 802.11b wireless(MPCI), Modem(MPCI), Ethernet(CDC), TV out, Li-Ion battery, Win2000

...the only inaccuracy compared to mine is that it came factory-installed with XP, has the IBM-marked MS CoA and everything. Yes, 512MB RAM, expanded since I got it.

Recieved T23

#10 Post by tf34mech » Tue Aug 05, 2008 9:24 pm

I received the T23 but the battery was dead. I pulled the hard drive out and installed it into my R30. It starts to boot up and then a pad lock symbol with a cylinder next to it pops up. I assume it is the hard drive password since it is in a new computer. Is this something that can be discussed and is it possible to reset?
Thanks
Sean

No, the rules of the forum do not permit this.

Don't believe so.

Anyone know how the drive lock works? Is there anyway to format the drive or is it junk?
Thanks

Take it from someone who has tried almost everything:
without the password you may as well dump the HD.

I was afraid of that. I assume it is not possible to read the drive with a adapter to ide 3.5.
Thanks

i believe the pwd is stored in the hdd electronics. no connection adapter circumvents it. it's hdd security working as designed.

as RBS said... best bet is to just get a new drive. or get a used drive that is unlocked. they pop up on marketplace here pretty regularly.
