R40 motherboard

#1 Post by ssiedel » Wed Jul 23, 2008 4:15 am

Hello,
I just bought on ebay a R40 laptop that may have a problem either on the motherboard, either on the video chipset. What happen is that the computer sometimes freezes, the display do not change and the keyboard don't react. Then, by changing a little bit the position of the computer, it can work again.

I already had the same problem with my T43 which was under warranty, and the guy from IBM told me it was a wire loose on the motherboard. Then he changed the motherboard.

Therefore, I may have to change the motherboard of my R40. My question is :
- is it the same motherboard for all R40 models ?

I suppose it is different MB for the 15' and the 14' models, but is it also different for a P4M and a Centrino R40 model ?

Sam

It would be a different system board for a Mobile Pentium M CPU vs. a Pentium 4 M. The R40 came with;

Intel Mobile Pentium M at 1.3GHz, 1.4GHz, and 1.5GHz
Intel Mobile Pentium 4 at 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, 2.2 or 2.4GHz

It looks like size of the machine does not matter. See this link, item # 17. Your best bet is to just replace it with the board part # that you have.
