Use External Widescreen Monitor with T42?

#1 Post by james2008 » Wed Jul 23, 2008 6:44 pm

My T42 has an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 video adapter.

Does anyone know if it is it capable of outputting widescreen resolutions to external displays?

Th ATI product page doesn't seem to list supported resolutions, but the max resolution it lists is a 4:3 one:

Search here on this forum or google for ati omega drivers. This driver replaces the IBM supplied graphics driver and will enable support for widescreen resolutions.

Thanks for the link! The Omega drivers look promising. It looks like they're done by a third party developer, but judging by the wikipedia article, they should be pretty reliable. Has anyone run into any stability problems with them on thinkpads?

Also, I'm not sure which ones to install.

The ATI page says that the latest drivers work for "Radeon Mobility M6 and up." But further down the page, it says that if you have a Radeon 9k-9250 series, you should use older drivers.

I think the Radeon 9000 is different from and older than the Radeon Mobility 9000, and that the latest ones will be fine, but can someone confirm that?

FYI, my T42p output 1360x760 to my 32" Samsung LCD with no problems, with stock IBM drivers. Have you tried setting the resolution with normal drivers?

Oh, good to hear, thanks. I don't have a widescreen monitor to test it with, but am considering getting one and wanted to be sure it would work.

32" sounds incredible. Is it a monitor or a TV? How does text display on such a big screen?

Also, Winsplit Revolution's an app you might be interested in, if it's a monitor and you use your PC to work on it often. It lets you easily tile windows using keyboard shortcuts:

There are some video demos on the site. (It's completely free to download and use, btw. The old site is much more homey feeling: http://reptils.free.fr/help.htm).

I'm driving an 24" WUXGA display with an A31p using Omega Drivers v3.8.252 without problems.

I'm using the Omega 3.8.360 drivers to run a 24" WUXGA screen from my T40p via DVI. They're fine.
