Version code/numbers (Type and Model), what do they mean?

#1 Post by mmm » Thu Jul 24, 2008 2:03 pm

My x300, which I just got and am very happy with, has the code:

6478 - 1HU
for, as I understand it, Type and Model.

On the Lenovo support/downloads pages you get to see there are a couple of others, but not that many. Just wondering if anyone here knows what this number and letter-code mean.

Is this just a code so Lenovo knows what hardware is in it? And if so, is Type 6478 newer than, say, 6477 ?
And what does the Model code consists of? What info is in "1HU"?

An example with the R51:
The 18xx-xxx models have ATi graphics. The 27xx-xxx and 28xx-xxx models have Intel graphics. The x's are filled in to cover various smaller variations in configuration, like ram, cpu, hd, ethernet, etc.

Usually, the last digit declares the laptop's market (for example, models that end in U are USA-international, while models with G are for the UK). If the last xxx is CTO, it means the laptop has been customized.

No, sounds like you tried a couple of minutes, even hours, later.

Now the server seems online again. It wasn't when I posted, trust me.

The server is unreachable or overloaded once more (monday july 28). None of the lenovo warez are downloadable right now.

the pdf is still not downloadable. Can someone make some decent bittorrent support for lenovo downloads?
I mean honestly, these people are the absolute amateurs in file distribution!

Retarded to still have to mess with overloaded servers. IBM/Lenovo should host their own torrent tracker and none of this would ever happen.
sorry to have bought the x300

works fine for me here in the US.

keep in mind that the PSREF only contains US models which don't apply to anyone outside this country.   models in other countries typically have slightly different specs.
