Access Connection does not detect WiFi After Upgrading

#1 Post by drblue » Thu Jul 24, 2008 8:14 pm

I recently reinstalled the Windows XP on my T60. In that process, I upgraded to Access Connection 4.52 (from 4.41). Since then, Access Connection (AC) have failed to detect any wireless network although the Windows' native wireless management software can detect wireless networks without any problem. So, it is quite clear that Access Connection has an issue.

I, of course, searched the net to find a solution. The standard procedure is to uninstall the wireless network card driver, and AC and reinstall them again (to all newest versions). I did it (actually more than several times), but no luck. AC still cannot detect any wireless network, so I had to uninstall AC and use the Window default. This is a shame because AC is a nice tool.

This is obviously a well-known problem, and some found solutions but others didn't. Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Thank you.

There a couple of thoughts: (1) With AC 4.52, are you using the XP version? I have 4.41 on my XP machine and 4.52 for Vista on my Vista machine, and they both work. (2) Try uninstalling AC, then the wireless driver, then restarting, then installing the wireless driver, then reinstalling AC. That sometimes works. ... JDH

Thanks, jdhurst.

I tried all those usual solutions. In fact, I spend a day trying to reinstall and uninstall IBM PM driver, hot key, wireless driver, and Access connection (this is what the tech support suggested). In that process, the machine got much worse, and other problems and errors began to show up. Eventually, I had to restore the system using my backup image (luckily I created an Acronis image).

I've heard a lot of horror stories about later version of AC. I miss good old days that IBM was actually providing very good service and high quality products.
