T61 Keyboard Exchange

#1 Post by crashnburn » Fri Jul 25, 2008 8:53 pm

I recently got a T61 Keyboard exchange.

I remember with Dell I did not have to send back the original keyboard.

Whats the deal with Lenovo / IBM Support?

Even though IBM almost always includes a DHL shipping label in the box with the new keyboard, I've never had to send one back. Same goes for new AC adapters/line cords, too.

Can anyone who has done a keyboard exchange please advise?

Which are the items that HAVE TO be sent back which ones they do not want back.

AFAIK, all "plastics" (like palmrest, LCD bezel), FRUs with no electronics (like LCD Lid, access panels, hinges etc) need not be sent back. Anything with active electronics (like keyboards, wifi cards, harddrives) need to be sent back within 30 days from getting the return shipping label ...

Thanks. I guess thats two contradictory opinions. I am guessing the Moderators have more experience on this front.

Well over the years I've had a few keyboards replaced and never had to send one back. Last one I did was last December (2007).

I have a Battery Exchange going on as well. I am going to swap it out and send back the old one.

Please don't tell me I can keep the battery as well :)

You for sure have to send back the battery. I just had keyboards replaced on a T42 and X41 a few weeks ago and didn't have to send anything back.
