Does a X23 MB (with cript chip, no 1394) work in a X20 box ?

Recently picked up a cheap X23 MB (12P3803, factory refurbished by IBM)and it looks like I may be able to pickup a cheap and very dead X20, just wonder if anybody may know if the X23 MB will work in the X20 box. The X20 is very dead, so I will need to replace the LCD, which if works, will run somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 (X22/23 replacement LCD price at EBay). I will furnish my own HD, and I have PC133 memory in my "pile".. May be a fun project to do, IF it fits.. Thanks.

lemme get this straight, you have a X23 which you want to put the motherboard into a broken X20 instead?

why not use the X23 MB in the X23..? sounds like a lot of work for no reason.

I picked up a CHEAP X23 MB (Motherboard), but I do not have a X23 (good or bad). I can pick up a dead X20 for $50 to fool with, but if you know of anybody that wants to sell me a X23 for $50, good or dead, I would much rather put the X23 MB in a X23 than a X20.

I think it will work. The easiest thing would be to put a X22 board into a X20. The X23 looks to have some connectors in different spots. If you are good with a dremel or drill, worth a try for sure.

Thanks. I am guessing that if a X22 MB fits into a X20 nicely, a X23 MB "should" follow, as X22 and X23 are often mentioned in the same breath and share many common parts. Will give it a go and see what happens.

Yea, I would like to find out too. I have an X20 and if it ever dies, I would like to know what options I have. If I knew that an X23 or X22 motherboard were compatible. I would have more options. I can rely on someone else to be the guinea pig :D
