T43 Recovery CDs "Internal Error"

#1 Post by ex0dus » Sat Jul 26, 2008 1:39 pm

I tried to re-install Window XP Pro from the 7 Disc set from IBM for my machine type. I did everything correctly (as I've used these before so I'm used to the process). However after the initial re-boot when I remove the Rescure Recovery Disc it asks for the Supplemental Disc and I insert it and that goes fine. Then it asks for Disc 1, and I install it.

After installing Disc 1 it says "processing" then says "an internal error has caused this process to fail." Then it says something about the reocovery partiiton not being there, but I know it's working somehow as the Recovery CDs seemed to create 3 partitions on the drive after I wiped the drive clean, but that's about it.

I really don't know what's wrong with the system at all. I wiped the drive clean and still it won't install.

I finally gave up and just installed VISTA Biz and all went surprising well. I'd really like to have XP back and if anyone knows what I can do please post.

Thanks!

Harry,

I solved this issue by downloading the PC Doctor bootable CD from Lenovo. I set the Preboot area to DISABLED. From there I did a Quick Erase of the hard drive. It took about an hour. Then I went back into the BIOS and set the Preboot area back to NORMAL. Then booted from Rescue & Recovery CD and all is fine. Vintage 2005 system is up and running :P

VISTA made the system run better than I thought (guess the processor is pretty good in the 2668), but very HOT and Aero was a dog at times.
