Fan speed on power up
I noticed that on 1st power up (after having been off) my laptop (R61) does not seem to turn on the fan? I guess Im assuming it should have been set to full blast in the bios and then down throttled by the fan driver after bootup? Anybody have any experience with this? I'm just a little afraid of my laptop overheating as a result. I'm running debian etch with the lastest linux kernel. Thanks.
The fan is controlled by an embedded controller, it doesn't need a driver to turn itself off/on. This similar to how it works on most laptops, the OS usually doesn't handle the fan unless forced to.
Then there's the fact that on first bootup the system is relatively cold, meaning you have nothing to worry about. As long as the fan turns on after being on awhile or some activity you're fine.
