Left mouse button get's stuck
When working in MS Excel the left mouse button sticks and selects everything this condition is carryed on to other apps eg. outlook or on the desktop, i've been searching high and low for a solution but hasn't been able to find one please help ?
I don't know the age or model of your machine, but since this thread is in the T4x conference, I'll assume that it's not new.
First of all, does it do this in Excel only or do you find that it also happens in other programs?
Apart from that, I'd have to say that you most likely have a mouse button that has gone bad over time. The left button gets the bulk of the work for a right handed computer user, and quite often people put a lot of pressure on a button instead of just what is necessary. Some folks wear out buttons faster simply by the way they press them. My wife is a good example! If your machine was bought used, you really have no way of knowing how the previous person used it and the mouse buttons are one of the mechanical devices on any laptops that will wear out over time.
If it's on the touchpad, you can either replace the KB bezel with the touchpad or replace the touchpad itself within it (I believe it's just 4 screws). If it's one of the TrackPoint ones, then you pretty much have to just replace the keyboard.

First off all, it's happens when working in excel but when the problem ocours it affects all app.
second i forgot to tell that i work a mid size company and the problem accours on all of our thinkpad note book (also T61). it only happens when using an external mouse, and i have to say that it's not a stuck mouse button, we have tried replacing the users mouse and keyboard but the problem still accours.
this problem is becomming a quite problem for us so a solution og just a cause of the problem would be very welcome. and my boss will be gratefull, and even more so i will be grateful cause the notebook of our company is my area and i got 40 people a day calling and mailing me about this problem

So it would seem this is a software issue then.
Also you indicated that it's only 1 machine but more.
I am curious about something. Do you have an IT department and are they aware of the problem?
Failing that maybe you could post the machine types, operating systems, driver revision #'s, and applications you are using as well as if any of them are run across the network as well. If you are connecting via a corporate LAN, is there some type of VNC software installed? Sometimes the VNC servers do not properly choose between observe and control.
You also said the problem starts in excel but then affects the rest of the system? Part me wants to think macros. Are you running any macro's when this happens? Even if you aren't it would be a good idea to scan the document for macro viruses by running it through your anti-virus systems.
Anyone else got some ideas?

Well yes we do and yes they are aware of the problem, i work in the IT-departmen wich i thought would be obvious since i said this was my area/responsebiltyI am curious about something. Do you have an IT department and are they aware of the problem?
we have VNC installed on the notebooks, but it's not running unless we have to remote acces the computerIf you are connecting via a corporate LAN, is there some type of VNC software installed? Sometimes the VNC servers do not properly choose between observe and control.
we are constantly running a real time scanning and it's neither a virus or a macro problem. You also said the problem starts in excel but then affects the rest of the system? All our computers are running XP sp2 (a few with SP3 we're curently in the procces of upgrading our image) the virus scanner employed on our system is trend microsystems Office scan. we are using office 2003. and we are using logitech's mouse for external mouse (they are running on the XP driver we tried with the logitech drivers wich had no effect)
