r31 problem

#1 Post by chop999i999 » Mon Jul 28, 2008 8:21 pm

Ok i am able to boot to bios and can boot to disk but it can't find hard drive. i removed drive and it is really hot almost too hot too touch. wondering if drive is bad would it heat up that much? or is something else wrong and over heating hard drive and made it go bad. Also what hard drive fits in my r31?

Is this a new hard drive you're talking about? When I upgraded my R32 hard drive, I had to partition it before the bios would recognize it (extremely non-intuitive). The partition table didn't even need to be what I wanted, it just needed to exist. For that matter, the partition(s) didn't even need to be formatted, just there (most OS installs do the format for you anyways).

It is the stock harddrive that it does not recognize. I am assuming the drive is dead and just ordered a new one and should be here soon. Also ordered a 2.5 enclosure to try and access some of the info from the old one if possible.
