booting from an external DVD possible?

#1 Post by Marin85 » Tue Jul 29, 2008 6:22 pm

Hi
I have just another question: can a ThinkPad boot from an external USB 2.0 DVD/CD drive? In this context: is it possible to install OS on a ThinkPad from an external USB 2.0 DVD/CD drive?

Thanks

depends if your bios supports booting from external DVD drive. try connecting DVD drive and selecting it in boot options menu. if you don't see it, means that your thinkpad doesn't support that kind of boot alternative.

Any fairly recent ThinkPad (post-2000, I'd say) should be able to boot from an USB media drive.

What machine exactly are we discussing here?

The ThinkPad in question is my Z61p which is similar to T60p, so I assume it would boot from an external USB media.

Thanks

I have been able to install XP and boot from any CD connected thru an IDE-> USB Adapter just fine. You should have no problems either
