power scheme linked to program?

Is there any way to link a power scheme to a program? When I view a DVD my screen goes off after ten minutes . . . kind of a bother. Is there any way to set a power scheme to 'start' when a program, say WinDVD, is started? I'm not using Power Manger on this T42, so if there anything for XP's "Power Options", I'd go with that first. If not, I'll install "Power Manager". Thanks.

Don't know if there is a way to do what you want to do. However, on my Thinkpads, the power scheme changes from Thinkpad Default to WinDVD power profile when I start playing a DVD. WinDVD profile indicates everything is set to Never turn off... including the screen.

What I don't know is what program is controlling the power profile... whether it be WinDVD, Thinkpad Power Manager, or Windows Power Manager. I'm gonna guess it's probably the Thinkpad Power Manager since your WinDVD and Windows power manager is allowing your screen to turn off. Did you happen to check if your power profile switches at all when you play a DVD? Also, is there a WinDVD profile listed in your power schemes?

Thinkpad Power manager doesn't use much resources so running it shouldn't adversly affect your machine performance. Has to be better than having your screen turn off!

I've noticed that for me when the screen saver kicks in in Widows Vista Ultimate, and releases the screen when I move the mouse it ends video playback in Media Center. I wish it was smart enough to know when I had launched Media Center, perhaps hidden somewhere within it is a setting to control this...
