Lost Ethernet in T22

#1 Post by syrenab » Wed Jul 30, 2008 10:11 am

My T22 with Win2000Pro was working fine, until foolishly I clicked on Windows Update. Then I lost Adobe Flash and was unable to reinstall. After trying everything suggested in the WindowsOS forum, I gave up and reinstalled Win2000Pro from my original CD (I don't have a T22 recovery CD). I also installed ALL the specific Thinkpad driver packages listed on the Lenovo support site for T22.

However I cannot access the Internet. On the Device Manager page Ethernet Controller is a yellow ?.
I have installed the updated drivers package for Intel Pro/100 combo adapter (tpmd1g2x.exe) in the recommended folder C:\drivers\mdmluc.
But when I try to install the driver, Windoes will not recognize it.

Any suggestions how to solve the problem are welcome.

BTW, all other programs on the computer work fine, hotkeys, Thinkpad manual, etc

Not to be smart or anything, but are you sure you have an IntelPro adapter? My T22 came with a 3COM adapter, which is a different driver; someone along the line could have changed mine too.

Yes, I distinctly remember that before I tried the reinstall,
on the Device Manager list,
where it now says Ëthernet controller"it said Ïntel Pro\100 combo adapter" - which was working before the reinstall - that is", I was accessing the internet, only videos were not playing.

Just curious, in your signature you show your T22 as having Wifi? Did you install a wireless adapter for that?

Yes, it is a plug-in PMCIA card. Usually worked very well. Reinstalation has not worked presumable because of the overall Networking problem.

Maybe look on the Intel website to see if they might have a newer driver? Good luck

Does your T22 still show a MAC address on its BIOS page?

Are you using the driver that came with the card?? Are you using the correct updated driver ie: cardbus vs mini PCI card. You advised your card was a PCMCIA card. Just a couple of thoughts on this.

Yes, the BIOS (ver. 1.11 of 2003-03-20) shows a MAC address:
00 03 47 93 14 07

The driver that I downloaded is the most recent driver on the IBM/Lenovo support page for T22 and the built in
Ïntel Pro\100 SP Mobile combo adapter
The Adapter shows up on my Control Panel as a Netwtork component But when I go to troubleshootiing I get message "Unable to locate drivers for this adapter"
and cannot find the way to get around the problem.

Hi syneb, if I go by what you are saying I think you are using the wrong driver?? If it is a plug in like you state it is a cardbus pcmcia and I believe uses a different driver and not the one you are trying.

I have a T30 and am not an expert on T22, but when I went up on the Intel site, there were drivers for mini-pci and also for cardbus pcmcia cards.

I am going on the assumption that you indeed have the Intel Pro 100 SP card. It is difficult to determine from your notes. If so then you are trying to load the modem driver from the .exe that you listed. I would go to the following URL to pick up the pub for this card :

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4VAMCU

then go to the following url to get the ethernet and modem drivers:

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... rintLenovo

I hope this helps.

Thanks, Capt Ernie
Yes, I originally downloaded the driver listed in the
>
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... rintLenovo
<.
When it didn't work, I downloaded the later driver file tpmd1g2x.exe for Intel Pro/100 combo adapter
which was listed on Lenovo's troubleshooting page for the T22 and .

The installation instructions were also provided on Lenovo's T22 Driver pages for the T22. And I followed them.

However, possible I made a mistake somewhere. So I will try to Uninstall the drivers, and start all over again. I will let you know what happens

My WiFi adapter is on a PMCIA card and has its own CD with drivers and utilities. It used to work OK until I ran into the Networking problem.

I have the XP-Pro and W2K Restore CDs for a T23, which also work on other T2x laptops.
You don't need a COA or Key to install these.
I can burn you a set of either or both for $7.50 each shipped.

In case you need one, I also have a spare NIC/Modem Combo card, made by Xircom (Intel CR), P/N 19K5886, FRU 19K5888 for $10.- shipped.
Let me know if interested.

Capt.Ernie
Good news!
I deleted all previous attempts to download network adapter drivers and started from scratch with IBM/Lenovo efntel16.exe package for the Intel Pro 1000 adapter.
It was a laborious procedure, because some of the on-screen instructions are not very clear. But in the end success.
Now BOTH adapters (for Ethernet and WiFi work.
Thank you

Saw this nearly 4 years ago thread concerning the Intel Pro/100 combo adapter and hope your T22 still alive ...

Could somebody do me a favour?

My Intel Pro/100 SP combo adapter has lost it's EEPROM data for the MAC and adapter setup.
To get it's internal information out as a complete info file holding 64k (65535 bytes) I use IBAUTIL -nic=1 -save booted in DOS native mode. It saves as 80861229.IBA. (IBAUTIL I use is the one from the Intel PRORPL package)
Tools like EEUPDATE from Intel don't help, don't write the chip.

I hope to get such a file to try to load and have the MAC and internal adapter description repaired in the chip (AT49BV512) on the combo adapter.

Could somebody pls. try to have that file created and send me by mail?
Pls. send PM to get e-mail address told.

That would be very nice and would make me happy. I spent several days trying different tools but nothing helped.

Many thanx in advance
Andi

Way too much hassle.
You pick up a replacement card for $10.- on eBay.

For me that's a less than 5 minutes task ...

Put IBAUTIL (I could send you by mail, just one exe file + another one txt file for help/explanations) on hard drive, press F8 (at least with WIN98SE starting) and choose DOS prompt.

DOS started go to the directory you stored IBAUTIL and run with the parameters posted above - and we're done.

Fast & easy
