tablet advice

#1 Post by crash2500 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 6:02 pm

I am a first year med student and am thinking about getting a tablet for med school because I heard it is quite useful. I just wanted to get some advice before I made my purchase. First, I was wondering whether I should go ahead and get a x61t or wait for the new x200t to come out. I am willing to spend up to 2000 and I am going to be using this computer for class notes, word processing, and other general school use. Also if i get the x61t I want to get the SXGA+ screen but I have read a lot of people saying they had a problem with the screen coming off the bezel and I dont want to have to send my tablet back to lenovo in 6 months. I am not really in that much of a rush to buy as I could probably be fine using my T40 for a few more months even though the battery dies in 45 min when unplugged. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The bezel problem is fixed. New tablets don't seem to have that problem. The SXGA+ screen is great.

If you need the computer by the start of the school year, an X200 Tablet will probably not be an option. It hasn't been formally announced yet.

thanks for your reply. Glad they fixed the bezel. Also I won't need it immediately at the start of the school year as I am willing to use my T40 if the x200t would really be worth it to wait. Is there anything new on it that would definitely be worthwhile to wait for? Is the widescreen a reason why I should not wait and just get the x61t? Are they getting rid of the SXGA+ and is that a big reason to get the x61t now? thanks

The thing is, they haven't even announced the X200 Tablet yet. We can all assume it's coming, but with no "official" word from Lenovo on a date it could be months into next year before we see it.

I think the X200 looks extremely excellent and would be worth the wait over a regular X61, but I can't see the logic behind a widescreen tablet, especially not such a small one. I'd just buy an X61 Tablet and be happy with it.

I'm starting med school in a few weeks as well and just picked up an X61t. They can be found for pretty cheap on eBay or with coupons from Lenovo. GREAT little laptop, you will enjoy it. Vista is perfect for the tablets, everything very streamlined. Def. get Onenote, should be helpful for us. I don't think the extra money spent on the 200t, even if it was released, would be justified given the amount of debt we're about to go accumulate....

enjoy

I actually picked mine up used on eBay because I wasn't sure if I'd like the whole tablet thing at first, and didnt want to lose money if I ended up reselling

X61T
Superview SXGA+ 12"
1.6ghz
100gb 7200rpm
4gb RAM
4695 wireless
Bluetooth
Docking Station w/DVD/CDRW
8 cell battery (gets about 5hrs charge, not bad for a used battery)

all this for $1150

what size hard drive and speed is advisable? I heard that the 7200 drains your battery more but i'm not sure if its significant.
