Pleased you like your Thinkpad - VERY pleased that there's someone else out there that rarely (or never) uses the touchpad - I get fed up reading posts here where people treat me as a complete moron simply because I prefer to use a mouse.

We're in a minority, and sadly with the 15" units a palmrest without Ultranav is not (yet) available. (Strangely it is for the 14"...) Use, enjoy!

Every time I check, it gets later. I'm afraid to check any more!
You're not alone, and very lucky - I'm projected for 1/26/05 as of this post even though I ordered on the 24th of December. I'd almost guess IBM's having serious trouble finding parts for some of the rarer models. I'd have ordered from Bill if he had the HVU instead of the GVU - 1600x1200 screen space is worth it to me.

sethstorm, I'm not surprised it is taking you a long time to get your HVU, what with the near 32% discount they were offering to everyone until 12/31 on that model...what a steal. It's now back up to the list price of $3,379, so those of you who got it at the sale price should be feeling pretty good right about now, even if you don't have your computer yet. :-)

RonS, I find the Q4U model to be an oddity. Unlike other models of ThinkPads that are also not listed for sale on the web site (presumably because they are either discontinued or out of stock for the forseeable future), I cannot use the IBM part number lookup tool for the 2373Q4U...it's like it doesn't exist:

http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_2373Q4U

This is the only (known) model that I cannot get on the part number lookup site. Others that aren't listed as "for sale" still look up just fine.

However, if you go to the SUPPORT site

http://www.pc.ibm.com/support/

and type in 2373Q4U in the "Quick path" field, it shows as a valid model, and is pretty much as you have described it in the past (a Q1U with the new Intel a/b/g Centrino card instead of the Atheros-based one).

The fact that the model was only on the IBM web store for a couple days and then removed shortly after you ordered it would concern me if I were in your shoes... :-) It would make me wonder if they discovered that they cannot stock the parts (the new Intel card?) and subsequently decided it wasn't worth the trouble of even having that model. Have you called IBM Sales to see if they can tell you what the holdup is?

I'm kind of curious to know how this turns out for you.

Best,

-- Nathan

I called IBM last week to get the status of this order and was told that everything wasy okay, and that the only delay was getting the unit. I just called again and was told that the 2373Q4U was either discontinued or at least 4-6 weeks out, they couldn't tell.

So, I just chaned my order to a 2373Q1U, the same notebook except with the IBM wireless card. Delivery estimate is no January 20th.

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks while I was looking around for a suitable notebook. I must say, this is a really good discussion board.

I finally did order a Thinkpad (2378FVU) and I can't wait until I get my hands on it. The IBM website says they will ship it on January 11, but I hope it comes before that.

Maybe because it's a Canada-only model? This URL worked for me (I changed the 'us' to a 'ca'):
