X30 -- Skype outgoing audio + Sound Recorder issues...

#1 Post by sameer » Thu Jul 31, 2008 6:30 pm

Hi everybody.

I have a question about intermittent issues I'm having with outgoing audio on Skype. Basically, sometimes Skype works fine but at other times the other party cannot hear me -- all they hear is static. When that happens, I've checked to see if Windows Sound Recorder records anything but the same thing happens -- all it records is static.

Here is what I have as my config:

X30 Type 2672 CU1 running Win XP Pro SP 3
SoundMAX
Skype Beta 4.0 .0.150 (on recommendation from the Skype Dev Zone)
Windows has been updated as well as all the drivers

Also, I've noticed that these audio issues with Skype and Sound Recorder aren't encountered when I use my computer first thing in the morning or if it has been idle for a few hours. So it lends me to believe that perhaps it's heating up and thus causing outgoing audio problems?

Any pointers appreciated.

Does this happen with the built in mic, or an external microphone ? Have you tried both ? I.e. rule out any aberrant hw problems.

Have you reinstalled the audio drivers ?

Yes, that's the driver version I have. And I have only tried the built-in mic. Hmm...perhaps I should try an external microphone.

fasterbybike, thank you!

I bought a Logitech external mic and plugged it into one of the USB ports and there have been no issues since. Really appreciate the input.

My pleasure. Now for the challenge ! Do you have the skills to find out what is wrong with the built in mic and fix it. The Hardware Maintenance Manualis the place to start.
Good luck and do ask if you need any more help.
