Can someone identify what this unusual column of keys are on this X30? First time I've seen it (and I would think that the X30 keyboard is already quite scrunched for IBM to squeeze in an extra column.

That doesn't look like an X series to me.. maybe the small space-bar of the Japanese keyboard layout is adding to the confusion.

I think one of the desktop replacements had that button-set (A- or G-series?) I think they were quick-launch keys.

The thin, exposed hinges and the notch of the lid in the lower left corner near the back of the base leads me to believe it's an A3x system. The column of extra buttons is indeed a set of quick launch "Web Navigation Keys" as rek has described.

As others have said, that is definitely an A30/A31/A30p/A31p with a Japanese keyboard.

Is there any particular reason you believed this was a X31 system?

Apart from the web navigation keys (as others have pointed out, only fitted to A3* Thinkpads), the area in front of the trackpoint buttons is proportionally too large, and the plastic hinge cover is not positioned beside the left hand hinge. Definitely an A3* series.

The picture was posted in an ad describing it as an X30. Since the picture was blury, I gave it the benefit of the doubt that it was an X series, although I found it odd that there would be an extra column of keys alonside the already narrow keyboard.
