T41 Access IBM and Power not working?

#1 Post by Al Bebe » Fri Aug 01, 2008 3:07 am

I have just rebuilt a T41 for a friend, with a new HD and WiFi to access their WPA-AES network provided by their ISP!

However I have noit been able to get the Power Meter or Access IBM Functional checked on here and Lenovo site but it not making sence to me yet?

Any pointers?

Thanks in advance.

Al.

Access IBM is an older utility that should at least start, although I wouldn't be surprised if many of it's components no longer work. IBM Update connector comes to mind as a non-working entity. The whole lot was replaced by 'Thinkvantage'. As far as the battery meter, it should appear after installing the latest 'Power Management (ACPI)' software. If that doesn't work try 'battery maximizer'....an older program that works.

you *may* want to try the system update utlity:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-66956
and see if it can recommend which things your t41 needs.

i'll need to defer to another person here who has experience with system update, specifically, to give more detailed guidance on this tool as i don't use it. i manage drivers on my machine manually. i don't have system update even installed, but many here do and use it.

*please use caution* if you pursue this as there is at least one current thread about a failed bios update, but if you use the tool cautiously, you should be able to restrict what gets installed similarly to how windows update works when doing a custom install from the ms site.

I have been using system update but it does not appear to install everything at least the way I was expecting.

It did perform the BIOS update and this appears ok.

However I have nothing when I press Access IBM, no battery meter or maximiser and my new Atheros Wireless card (replacing the previous Cisco one) will not start up although the drivers have been installed ok???

Dont have any problems with my Z61t!?!

Thanks in advance.

Are you sure the drivers have been installed completely? When you download the drivers from the Lenovo site and run the files, they are just extracted to a default folder C:\Drivers. You have to run the corresponding setup files in C:\Drivers to install the drivers. For example Access IBM is in subfolder \AIBM_PKG, hotkey driver (the one that makes the blue Access IBM button to work together with configuration utility in \w9x\utility) is in \win\hotkey and battery maximizer is in \win\bmmpm, power management is in \win\ibmpm, and so on.
