t43 7200mAh batteries with a t42?

#1 Post by meeotch » Fri Aug 01, 2008 3:54 pm

After some searching, I still couldn't find an answer to this question:

Can I use a t43 battery (specifically, the 7200mAh 9-cell version, which has a higher capacity than the 6600mAh t42 9-cell) with a t42?

The HMM and the lenovo site only list FRU's for the 6600mAh kind when searching under t42... but it seems unlikely that it wouldn't work. Anyone tried this?

Also: does anyone have a reliable (cheap) source for new OEM thinkpad batteries? Searching through eBay to find the ones that are non-knockoff can be a big tedious. And trying to find one with Panasonic cells instead of Sanyo/Sony is next to impossible.

I think all the T4x batteries are the same.

As for locating new OEM batteries, there are people on this forum who can help you with that...post a WTB ad in the Marketplace and see what happens...and no, I'm NOT one of them...

There shouldn't be any problem using the higher capacity 9 cell battery in your T42.

I agree with George about posting a WTB in the marketplace.

Actually...

There were two models, a 6 cell and a 9 cell for T40/T41/T42's. With the introduction of T43's, slightly higher capacity 6 cell and 9 cell models were introduced. Perhaps to make up for the T43's higher power consumption (due to performance enhancements). These batteries would permit T43's to have roughly the same runtime as the models they replaced.

So, there are two 6 cell battery and two 9 cell battery capacities. Couple this with three manufacturers, Sony, Sanyo and Panasonic (I think there are only three), and there are quite a few different battery models for T4x's.

There are no issues at all with using any T4x battery with any T4x machine, that includes the 3 cell UltraBay Slim battery.
