#1 Post by spt60 » Fri Aug 01, 2008 8:56 pm

Open Recalls

Recall: 04S17
Description: INSTALLATION OF FRONT COIL SPRING PROTECTIVE SHIELDS FOR VEHICLES OPERATED IN CORROSION STATES

Can anyone help me explain what/where the "front coil spring protective shields" is?

Thanks! :)

The front coil spring is part of the suspension system, the strut above each wheel goes through the coil spring; I think some dealers put shields around the coil spring, but in any case, there is one spring above each wheel assembly.

Here is a video showing a mechanic taking out the strut to remove a broken coil spring Video

I took the car to the local Ford dealer. Although they told me my springs have already been replaced by after-market springs when I purchased the car, they called it in to the head-quarter and agreed to perform the recall. They replaced 2-front springs plus 1 strut bearing due to related damage.

I truly appreciate this. Go Ford!
