Although now the machine runs as it should, I'm afraid that this accident will cause further damage (i.e: bad sector). What should I do to check the overall condition of my machine?

It's unlikely to harm the hardware. No guarantee about whether it corrupted any files.

I second nonny's opinion.
Anyway, I thought that a perfectionist person will not remove the battery from the laptop, because there is no perfect laptop without a battery.

Well thanks for your replies guys.
I was so panic at the moment and even considering in getting new hard drive to replace current one.
I'll do hard drive surface scan right after my torrent download completes to check wheter it caused some bad sectors.

I do this sort of thing all the time and in the last, like, ten years it's never given me a problem. I have one friend who once had a problem powering off without shutting down...on an old Macintosh Plus. It's not a good idea to do it, but computers are much more reliable than they used to be. I think you'll be fine.

i have other laptops but i'll be honest i never use 'em

I have lost power on an infrequent basis (with one exception) on a variety of NT-based machines and it doesn't seem to cause a problem. NTFS is resilent that way.
The exception was my Desktop and a bad UPS. I didn't notice the UPS until too late, and there were sufficient uncerimonious shutdowns to screw up a few things. It was time for a larger hard drive, so I just rebuilt and moved on.
Moral: I don't know why, but once in a long while is apparently not a problem. Frequent power off's can cause problems.
