Hard case help?

#1 Post by doctor bloomquist » Sat Aug 02, 2008 9:16 am

Can anyone help me with this? I've been trying to find a hard case for my T23 for a while without success. I'm not keen on laptop bags because they're such thief/mugger magnets, so I usually keep the lappy in a sleeve I made out of bubble wrap and duct tape, inside a normal record bag that has everything else a student lugs around.

Ideally I'm looking for a hard case to keep the Thinkpad from being squashed by books, A4 folders, water bottle etc in the record bag, rather than just a sleeve that protects from bumps and shocks.

I found this on eBay, if the link doesnt open it's item 360038265304:

It's *exactly* the kind of thing I'm after, but too small for a T23. The next size up is for 15" laptops. I asked the seller for exterior dimensions, and the 15" case is too big for my bag!

Has anyone come across a rigid case/sleeve for their Thinkpad? If you dont use a laptop bag what's your solution? I look like some kind of terrorist at uni, furtively rustling this duct taped, bubblewrapped thing out of my bag!!

What is your budget? Pelican makes some real nice hardcases, but they are expensive (even used) and heavy ...

Thanks for the advice peeps!

Budget wise, shall we say student budget (ahem). I got the Thinkpad for £89 so I'm being realistic about spending on a case for it - I have to say those aluminium ones are very well priced, though too tall for the bag (which is about 11.5" tall) unfortunately. I'll kep looking though!

i saw in your signature: flat blob trackpoint - do you mean T4x series trackpoint? ... it fits on older keyboards?

the DVD made the same noise like yours - i solved the problem by replacing it whit a same one from a "parts" machine i have...
the floppy-ish one was a Hitachi (other than that working fine) - now i have a i-dont-know-what that appears in the device manager as HL-DT-ST... but original PN IBM

Offtopic- Mods! Mods! Heeeelp
I just got it off ebay, my t23 was second hand and the pointer was a bit worn. See http://tinyurl.com/5l5whm or if the link doesn't work ebay item 300247878580.

In the photo, from left to right is original style, the flat blob I use, and an unusable style flat blob (my opinion).

My dad's T21 has a Toshiba DVDrom that's silent at startup, so it must just be how the 8081N is made. Apparently my thinkpad has retro looks to go with the sound - my brother reckons it looks like an old sinclair spectrum! http://img178.imageshack.us/my.php?image=specpadqo2.jpg
