Loading of BIOS fails, display does not power up- X31

#1 Post by Flow » Sat Aug 02, 2008 2:41 pm

Good evening,

Have been using my X31 for about a year now, and I'm loving it.
Sadly the last two days I haven't been able to use it.

The problem is that when I power on the laptop, the power comes on, but nothing happens to the display. It's like it doesn't receive any power. I can't here any HDD-activity either, so I don't think anything gets loaded.

I upgraded the RAM one month ago, but I don't think that's the problem. I encountered this problem a couple of times about a year ago, but then it went away. The problem started occurring this week.
In the beginning I would only get the problem if the power chord was plugged in. The problem would be resolved if I turned on the computer while the power chord was unplugged. After the laptop was running I could reconnect the power chord.

It would be really helpful if anyone had any ideas.

Kind regards,

Daniel

PS, I will provide a video-clip soon.

welcome to the forum. :)
sorry you're having troubles. :(

i had similar issues with my t22 about 6 months after buying it new. same general symptoms. the machine would run fine and then after a shut down while on ac power with the battery installed, it would fail to boot. i'd get a flicker of the power light with every press of the power button, but no hd or lcd activity.

the only thing that would bring it back was unplugging the ac and removing the battery for 3-5 minutes. so, i called easy-serv since i was under warranty and sent the machine in to depot. before the problem was resolved, they had replaced the planar twice. i spoke to the actual technician the second time and he explained that there was a component (capacitor or some other) on the planar that was holding a charge (or an overcharge) that it wasn't supposed to. that was the reason pulling all power would get the machine running. it allowed the faulty component to discharge.

i wish i could offer more...

Try an old trick:

Unplug the adapter, remove the battery. Press the "power" button 10 times in a row, holding it down for 10 seconds each time, and 30 seconds the last time around.

Plug the adapter back in and try to power on.

Please report on any progress or lack thereof.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies :)

Unfortunately, it didn't help. After plugging in the AC-adapter, and pushing the power-button, the display is still off. I also tried to connect the battery pack instead of the AC-adapter with the same results.

Kind regards,

Daniel

I'm afraid you're going to need a new motherboard... :(

That doesn't sound to good. New motherboard = new laptop?
Is it better to order a new laptop or return mine for reparation?
