CDROM doesn't show up in Windows Explorer

#1 Post by plucky duck » Sat Dec 25, 2004 4:18 pm

But it is recognized in Device Manager. Shows up with an exclamation point. It's a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-812 on a T42p.

Device status....

Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot find the hardware device. (Code 41)

Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device.

Tried rebooting. Disabling and re-finding device. Tried removing and physically reinstering the drive unit. Still same thing. Anybody have any ideas what may be wrong with it?

Had the same problem yesterday with my daughter's boyfriend's G40. I just did a clean install of windows as it was pretty messed up all around. Works like a charm now.

Now I did as the link suggested, but now all the programs and Windows Explorer recognises it as a reguar CDROM drive only, not a CD burner. IBM's Record Now, Easy CD Creator, and Nero doesn't recognise any existing burners.

Any ideas? I'm waiting for IBM help desk to respond as well.

Have you tried re-installing some of the programs (for example Record Now)?
