Need Help With 'New' T Series
Need Help With 'New' T Series
I've been snooping round these forums for a while now reading up on whether or not a T-Series is the right laptop for me. The long and the short of it is that I picked up a T40 from eBay.
the problem I have is that I want to create the rescue CD's but due to the fact that this laptop doesn't have a CD Writer I don't know what to do. I thought the best thing to do would be to create the CDs as .iso's and transfer them over to my desktop PC, from there I could burn them to CD.
If anyone has any ideas or links that would help me out that would be great.
Thanks,
vaughty

I was also wondering how I went about updating the bios. I've had a look on the IBM website and the newest available bios is 3.13 and the embedded controller is 3.04.
The thing I'm concerned about is that in the README it's says that to update the bios I need Embedded Controller Version 3.04 but in the Embedded Controller README it says I need Bios Version 3.13 and my version is 2.02.
This all seems like a bit of a Catch 22 situation to me so any insite would be greatly appreciated.
Also, is there any particular order in which I should install them etc.
Thanks in advance,
vaughty

i was under the impression that you could if you had the latest rescue and recovery installed, though i could be and probably am wrong.jdhurst wrote:A T41 can't create recovery CD's (which is what I think you might mean), and I don't think a T40 can either. It would be worth the 45 dollars (IIRC) to obtain the recovery CD's from IBM. ... JD Hurst
I faced this same hurdle last week on a brand new T41p. I updated the embedded controller first (non-diskette method) and when that process was done I immediately did the BIOS update (non-diskette also).vaughty wrote: The thing I'm concerned about is that in the README it's says that to update the bios I need Embedded Controller Version 3.04 but in the Embedded Controller README it says I need Bios Version 3.13 and my version is 2.02.

So was this an image of your computer when you made the recovery CDs or was it an original factory software install image that you made with R&R?

It was an image of my computer when I made the recovery CDs. Somewhat annoying was that R&R had to make the local backup first and then burn the image to CDs.
My T30 came with the recovery CDs (more than 2 years old..). So, it was good to have a more up-to-date recovery CDs, and I did the recovery using the recently made one.
