The question is whether Lenovo thinks the same way, is it still the flagship product for them ? X300 was not big success I guess, T series top features were gone. People buy cheap crap in high volumes. After all; isn't the SL series the flagship product of this time ?ThunderRiver wrote:If T series is the flagship product

X300 is really overpriced. If they have a more configurable model with base price starting at $1300 to $1500 (without SSD of course), they have better fighting chance. Just because they want to compete against MacBook Air, does not mean they need to price it that high.Puppy wrote:ThunderRiver wrote:X300 was not big success

The price would not be the #1 problem as long as all components would justify it. Today I had a chance to see it and the display is horrible (see my posting in X300 forum).ThunderRiver wrote:If they have a more configurable model with base price starting at $1300 to $1500 (without SSD of course), they have better fighting chance.

Yea I am working on the T400 and T500 right now. Hopefully the T400 will be up Monday morning, then followed with the T500.
If you have any questions feel free to ask, although I might find them sooner if you post over on NBR

Oh and oddly enough, my NBR and Thinkpads forum registration date matches on both sites. Dec 10th 2004
I know you do! I wonder what problem or question had you on the hunt for a forum to get an answer on 12/10/04? I don't remember the date, but I started down this road trying to get an MWave modem to behave.own6volvos wrote:Hey I still point my fellow ThinkPad fans over to this forum all the time

Go to the last few pages of that thread. I have some images showing the differences between the 2 keyboards. Lenovo decided to go the weight saving route and messed up a good thing (keyboard).

Wah. They're still WAY better machines now than they were in the days of the T4x. I'm talking about durability and endurance.harpyeagle wrote:own6volvos wrote:

It's the little things. If you can actually get hold of the same configuration that they're in the process of reviewing on notebookreview.com then it'd be a great machine. It's a shame that it's basically impossible to find that configuration at the present time in Europe because it's exactly what I want.

As for the keyboard it is going the "right way". We lost displays first, now it is the keyboard ?
I doubt that weight was the reason (especially if the T400 is thicker than 14" T4x). Replacing metal plate with plastic one is rather the same reason like to replace IPS panel with cheap TN crap -> profit. Well, is there anything else except trackpoint what is supposed to convince me to buy another ThinkPad ?

There are a TON of things in the T400 and T500 that you can see were done to cut down on weight. Some of these items cost more to machine into the design, so it isnt just cost savings.
The T500 weighs a lot. It weighs more then my T60 with IPS FlexView. Lenovo probably saw this and did everything they could to drop the weight down in design. The newer keyboard ends up being 25% lighter than the previous model (1.5oz less).
Now this is something Lenovo can correct if enough people complain about it, as the older keyboards still work, and look identical. I swapped the one from my T60 to test this. If they dont fix it, I figure I will be stocking up on a few new-old-stock keyboards off ebay.
