T400/500 Cpu question

#1 Post by dkchen » Wed Aug 06, 2008 10:22 am

So, I've been looking at the lenovo site for a while. They keep on advertising that they have a cpu chip that can go up to 2.80 ghz, but when i look its really only up to 2.53 ghz. Why is that?

Are they planning to put the quade core or the 3.0ghz chip model soon?

Just some questions that I don't know.

Thanks,
Jonathan C.

Quad core yes, in the future, I think that might be in the datasheet too. Not sure about the 3.0Ghz clock speed.

The TAbook has 2.8GHz models (preconfigured). It is not on the CTO web page yet. This is common on Lenovo launches - limited availability options do not show up on the web page. Sometimes, if you call Lenovo you can get it.

3GHz and Quad core require a greater thermal envelope (TDP) - Lenovo has not yet revealed whether the T-series can handle it.

Speculation

My best guess is that the 14 and 15" platforms will not handle the higher power chips but there will be a 17" W-series that can.
