May have solved the mystery of the loose hinges
like everyone else my hinges were getting loose after a few months use and tighting the screws on the bottom of my T61p didnt really help much. So what i did was open my Thinkpad all the way to the keyboard bezel. On there was one screw for each hinge so i tighten those and my thinkpad was back to the way i first got it. Just want to let you guys know.

theres 2 screws for the base of the hinges. one for each of the hinges on the bottom of the thinkpad which is totally exposed and easy to see. The one im talking about requires you to take out the palmrest, keyboard and keyboard bezel. Removing these will expose the screw on the top of the hinges. Tighten that screw stops the lcd from swings around. In fact I tighten it too hard that my fingernails are hurting from opening the screen.
ill post some pics later.
