Quick question: T60 2623-D3U Core 2 Duo Upgrade

I have the opportunity to purchase a used T60 2623-D3U (15" SXGA+ Flexview with ATI X1400).

The laptop comes with a Core Duo T2500 and I may be interested in upgrading it to a Core 2 Duo T7200/T7400/T7600.

Will the upgrade work in this particular model? I understood that there can be issues depending on the revisions of the motherboard.

You need a revision 3 systemboard. Check out the current revision with CPU-Z. Don't forget to flash to the latest BIOS before the swap.

I upgraded the CPU's on my A31's and on my Z61m. I suggest you use Arctic Silver 5 for thermal compound.

In the end I reverted on the Z61m (T7200) due to the temperature slowly creeping up when running at 100%. (indicating the fan being too small for 100%, in one of the A31 I replaced the fan with the unit from the A31p which has a bigger fan). With the slightly slower CPU (T2400) temperature plateau'd.

I recently acquired a T61 that was left on the front seat of a car on a hot day. All the plastics are destroyed as is the screen but the system components seem to work fine. So the question I have is will this proc work in my T60 2613-hku? Is it possible to put the system board from the T61 in my T60 chassis?

EDIT: I cracked open my T60 to put the 2gb stick of RAM I found in the T61 in and can tell the motherboard from the T61 is not going to fit. Heatsink and fan in my T60 however is much more beefy looking though. I also checked my motherboard and it is Revision 3 which I remember seeing somewhere in the forums is necessary for processor upgrade (though in those cases the upgrade was from a T2** to a T5*** or T7***).

No that processor will not work.

The widescreen T60's and T61's use a physically different motherboard which you discovered. Did the screen crack or just doesn't turn on?

Screen cracked from either the heat or from the bezel contracting. Going to extract the board from the casing and put it back together outside and see if I can test it. Might make a mini-ITX project with the processor if it is working. Does the T61 use the same power supply as the T60?

That is too bad. I have never heard or seen that happen. I will have to keep that in mind. I usually don't leave my ThinkPads in the sun in the car. Now for sure I will not.

Yes they both use the same power supply.
